Our state-licensed, CAP-accredited lab delivers faster, more accurate results and strengthens physician collaboration to improve your care.
At GI Consultants, we're proud to offer an on-site anatomic pathology lab led by Dr. Phillip Usera, a board-certified pathologist specializing in gastrointestinal (GI) disease. By having a dedicated GI pathologist on our team, we're able to deliver faster diagnostic results, ensure better communication between providers, and enhance the continuity of care for every patient.
Our pathology lab is licensed by the State of Nevada and fully accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) — a distinction that reflects the highest standards in lab accuracy, quality, and safety.

What Is GI Pathology and Why Does It Matter?
GI pathology focuses on analyzing tissue samples taken during procedures like colonoscopies and upper endoscopies to diagnose a wide range of conditions, including:
- Colon polyps
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), such as Crohn's or ulcerative colitis
- Barrett's esophagus
- GI cancers
Traditionally, tissue samples are sent to off-site labs, which can slow down the diagnostic process. At GI Consultants, having an in-house pathology team means:
- Quicker turnaround times for biopsy results
- Improved accuracy through direct communication between gastroenterologists and the pathologist
- More personalized care, with the ability to consult in real time if questions arise
What Is CAP Accreditation?
The College of American Pathologists (CAP) is the leading organization for lab accreditation in the United States. Their inspections assess everything from testing accuracy and specimen handling to safety protocols and quality control. A CAP-accredited lab ensures that your pathology results meet the most rigorous standards in healthcare.
